The writing of this book,
posthumously edited by Karsten, absorbed the last months of Lambert's
life. It pursues his early investigations on heat (1755) as promised in
his inaugural oration at the Academy (1765). Lambert's Pyrometry of the theory
of fire is an exemplary case of his methodic approach in experimental
physics, just as his hygrometry was.
